Print that sells at the point of decision

Point-of-sale (POS) print sits where customers are already in buying mode: on the counter, on the table, at the till. A well-placed table talker or tent card can promote a special offer, upsell a premium option, or introduce a new product at exactly the moment someone is ready to spend. No advertising budget required; just smart placement.

Table talkers

Table talkers are freestanding printed displays designed to sit on restaurant tables, bar tops, reception desks, and counters. They are typically three-sided (triangular) or flat with a fold-out base, giving you two or three printable faces visible from different angles.

Common uses:

  • Daily specials and seasonal menus in restaurants and cafes
  • Drink promotions and cocktail menus in bars and pubs
  • Service upsells at hair salons, spas, and beauty clinics
  • Loyalty programme promotions at the till
  • Wi-Fi passwords, QR codes, and payment information

The key advantage of a table talker is that customers see it without being asked to look. It is already on the table when they sit down, so it gets read while they are waiting, browsing the menu, or making a decision.

Tent cards

Tent cards are folded card with a tent-shaped profile (an inverted V). They are simpler than table talkers and take up less space, making them suitable for smaller tables and tighter counter spaces.

Best for: Name cards at events, reserved signs, table numbers, small promotional messages, and anywhere you need a compact freestanding display.

Strut cards

Strut cards are flat printed cards with a fold-out strut on the back that props them up at an angle. They are the most versatile POS product because they come in any size from A6 up to A1, making them suitable for everything from counter displays to floor-standing point-of-sale.

We covered strut cards in detail in our earlier post on what strut cards are and how to use them.

Making POS print work

The most common mistake with point-of-sale print is trying to say too much. A table talker has a few seconds of attention. Keep it to one message per face:

  • A single offer or promotion
  • A clear price or saving
  • An action (scan this QR code, ask your server, visit this URL)

Change your POS print regularly. A table talker that has been sitting on the same table for six months becomes invisible. Refresh monthly or seasonally to keep the content relevant and the displays looking clean.

POS print works best as part of a broader print strategy. Combine it with flyers for takeaway promotion, posters in the window, and branded stickers on packaging for consistent messaging across every customer touchpoint.
