Presentation Folders: Making Your Documents Look Professional
Why folders still matter
In a world of email attachments and shared drives, handing someone a physical folder with printed documents inside still makes an impression. It says you have prepared, you take the meeting seriously, and your business is professional enough to invest in how it presents itself.
Presentation folders are used by accountants, solicitors, estate agents, architects, financial advisers, and any business that hands documents to clients. A branded folder turns a loose stack of papers into a cohesive, professional package.
Types of presentation folder
Glued presentation folders
Glued presentation folders are the premium option. The pockets are permanently glued in place, creating a solid, durable folder that holds its shape. These are the type you would use for important client presentations, proposals, and welcome packs.
They are typically printed on 350gsm to 400gsm card with matt or gloss lamination on the outside. The result is a folder that feels substantial and looks polished.
Interlocking presentation folders
Interlocking presentation folders are die-cut from a single sheet and assembled without glue. The tabs fold and lock into place to create the pocket. They are lighter, easier to post flat, and more cost-effective than glued folders.
These work well for situations where you are sending folders by post (they ship flat and the recipient assembles them) or where you need a larger quantity at a lower cost per unit.
What to put inside
A presentation folder is only as good as what it contains. Common inserts include:
- Proposals and quotes
- Company brochures or capability statements
- Price lists or rate cards
- Business cards (most folders have a slit or pocket for this)
- Terms and conditions
- Welcome letters for new clients
The folder keeps everything together, in order, and branded. When the client puts it on their desk or in a drawer, your brand is visible every time they see it.
Design tips
Keep the exterior design clean. Your logo, company name, and perhaps a tagline or contact details. The outside of a folder is not the place for dense information; it is about brand presence.
The inside panels (the pockets and the spine area) are good spots for secondary information: a list of services, a website URL, a QR code linking to your portfolio, or a brief company description.
If your brand uses spot UV, foiling, or embossing, a presentation folder is one of the best products to apply these finishes to. A matt laminated folder with spot UV on the logo is a combination that looks and feels premium without being over the top.
Pair your folders with matching letterheads, compliment slips, and business cards for a fully branded stationery suite. For paper choice guidance, see our paper stock guide.
