Flags, Banners and Crowd Barriers: Print for Outdoor Events
Making an impact outdoors
Indoor events have roller banners and exhibition stands. Outdoor events need something tougher: products built to handle wind, rain, and the general chaos of an outdoor setting. From festivals and markets to sporting events and grand openings, the right outdoor print makes your brand visible from across a field.
Teardrop flags
Teardrop flags (also called feather flags or flying banners) are tall, curved-edge flags printed on lightweight fabric and mounted on a flexible pole. They catch the wind and move constantly, which naturally draws the eye.
Best for: Marking your pitch at outdoor events, car forecourts, shop frontages, sports events, and anywhere you need height and visibility. A pair of teardrop flags either side of an entrance creates an instant welcome point.
Practical notes: They come with ground spikes for soft ground (grass, sand) or weighted bases for hard surfaces (tarmac, paving). The print is typically dye-sublimated onto polyester fabric, which is lightweight, vibrant, and machine-washable.
Crowd barrier covers
Crowd barrier covers are printed wraps that fit over standard metal crowd barriers (the type you see at festivals, concerts, and sporting events). Instead of a row of bare metal barriers, you get a continuous branded display at waist height, right in front of your audience.
Best for: Music festivals, food and drink events, marathon routes, sporting venues, product launches. Any event using crowd control barriers is an opportunity for branded covers.
Practical notes: Covers are printed on durable PVC or mesh material and attach with bungee ties or Velcro straps. Mesh versions allow wind to pass through, reducing the sail effect in exposed locations.
Outdoor banners
Outdoor banners are large-format PVC banners with reinforced hems and metal eyelets for fixing. They are the workhorse of outdoor advertising: durable, weatherproof, and visible from a distance.
Best for: Building wraps, fence banners, event entrances, roadside advertising, temporary signage for new developments. Available in custom sizes to fit your specific location.
Other outdoor products
Our outdoor range also includes A-frames for pavement signage, cafe barriers for outdoor seating areas, Heras fence covers for construction sites and event perimeters, and bollard covers for branding in pedestrian areas.
Each product is designed for outdoor durability. Materials are UV-resistant, waterproof, and built to withstand the Northern Irish weather, which, as anyone local knows, tests everything you put outside.
Combining indoor and outdoor print
Most events need both indoor and outdoor materials. A typical setup might include teardrop flags outside to draw people in, roller banners inside your stand area, and flyers to hand out. Our guide on event printing in Belfast covers the full checklist and ordering timeline.
Artwork tips for outdoor print
Outdoor print is viewed from further away than indoor materials, so design accordingly:
- Use large, bold text. If it is not readable from 5 metres, make it bigger.
- Keep the message short. A headline, a logo, and a website or phone number is usually enough.
- Use high-contrast colours. Dark text on a light background (or vice versa) reads well in bright sunlight and overcast conditions alike.
- Avoid fine detail. Small text, thin lines, and intricate patterns do not translate well at large scale in outdoor environments.
